Love and Grace in the Age of Unreason

Don’t know if that title makes sense to anyone else but me.  I just liked the sound of it.  We are  surrounded daily by what seems to me unreasonable requests.  The ‘do this’ ‘don’t do that’ life.  If we would just look around us and see that love is the answer.  Yes.  It may seem trite to many people, but if we don’t start somewhere, we will never reach the true goal of loving others as God intended us to.  Love is where it all starts, then to grace.  As my husband said to me, we cannot have grace if we first do not have love.  Love of others, love for ourselves, love for our families.  But what I see on t.v. and in magazines, is we need to have this products to make our lives more fulfilling.  We won’t be happy if we don’t buy this type of car, or this brand of shampoo.  And it is all useless in the end anyway.  People are so lonely these days, even in this age of computers, smartphones, etc.  We seem to be able to communicate quicker, but seem to be doing it less.  How about sending a card or letter to someone you care about.  Going to their home and bringing something homemade to them, or a phone call.  I’m sure that they would love to hear the sound of your voice.  Life is difficult and messy at times.  We need someone there for us, to help lift us up when we are down.  It is easy these days to get down on things.  Wars, flooding, terrorism, joblessness, the economy, problems in our personal lives.  We can become overwhelmed by it all.  Perhaps that is why there are so many people struggling with addictions, be it alcohol, drugs, food, or even work.  There is so much pain in their lives and people are desparate to mask that pain, hoping to make it go away.  Love is the key.  Without love I believe that this society will collapse.  When our love turns cold, so does our world.  When we don’t love others, we tend to treat them poorly.  Consider the elderly, they could definitely use someone to visit them.  Bring a kind word and a warm smile.  A young mother struggling with bills and the demands of little children.  I could go on and on with the hurt in this world.  Let us not be unreasonable to others.  People would probably have their day brightened by just a smile from a stranger.  Being let into traffic rather being cutoff.  A door held open for them instead of being dropped.  Grace follows love.  God gives us grace through His Son, Jesus.  We cannot do anything more or anything less to make Him love us.  He is God.  The Creator.  He knows what is best for us.  He is saddened when we snub each other.  When we are cold and unfeeling towards the needs of this society.  I know, this is probably a rant to some.  But I want to help other people, to make their day a bit brighter.  Please try to do anything, something, to show love to others.  You are part of the solution.  Do something today.  The joy in your heart from helping another person will do wonders for both them and for yourself.  God bless you.
